If you've been travelling HWY#10 north of Shelburne Ontario lately you must have noticed the wind farm (on your left as you head north). This series of wind generators is capable of powering 20,000 homes. These are massive turbines each generate 1.5 megawatts (MW).

This is all part of the Melancthon I Wind Project in the townships of Melancthon and Amaranth near Shelburne in Southern
Ontario.

Here is a short video of the wind generators in Shelburne. I have no idea who took it.
Every once in a while I come across a pretty good deal on something and I like to pass it along to you guys. Sometimes I'll just post a link to a store I found it on, or other times it's actually a place that I am affiliated with. This deal from geeks.com is the llatter. It's a SanDisk 1GB mp3 player for $29. Sounds like a good deal to me, I purchased my no-name 1GB mp3 player from eBay about a year ago for $69...then again these things come down in price rapidly. Anyway, here is the link if you are interested.

Canon S3 IS

I've owned 4 digital cameras, 3 Kodak, one Canon. My favourite is the Canon S3 IS. It's a 6 megapixel beast which sports a 12x optical zoom. You can't beat a good fast camera with a high optical zoom. For going to the zoo, the park, nature pictures this is a really nice camera to own. Mine cost me around $450, but they can be had now quite a bit cheaper than that. I expect to see even further price reductions now that Canon has come out with the S5 IS. From what I can tell, the S5 is basically the same camera, but uses the digic III processor instead of digic II and is an 8 megapixel vs the 6 MP from the S3.

But this entry isn't about the camera itself, but on the cheapy lens kit that I purchased on eBay.

The lens kit I purchased is the Digital Concepts Camera/Video Widge Angle & Telephoto Lens Set. This set is compatible (with some adapter rings) with a number of different digital cameras including mine, the Canon S3 IS.

The set itself appears to be of high quality, it comes with a 2x telephoto lens, a wide angle lens, an adapter tube, some adapter rings and 3 filters. The quality seems to end at the apparence.

So, I slap the new adapter tube and telephoto lens on the camera and take a couple of pictures...is "crap" a good word to use in a review. The pictures remind me of ones I would take with a cheap camera, a cheap camera whose lens is covered in bacon grease. I am so dissapointed with this purchase that I wouldn't even give it away.

So, buyer beware. I have no idea what the quality of pics would be like with the "real" lens kit from Canon, but the piece of cow manure that I purchased off eBay isn't worth putting in my camera bag.

I still love my S3 IS and fortunately with 12x zoom it's still a nice long distance camera. I guess if I want to move my zoom up a notch I should be looking toward a full digital SLR camera. I just thought I'd try to go the cheaper route this time, big mistake.

One of the greatest inventions known to man is the USB Flash Drive.

I have two of these, one that I purchased about 2 1/2 years ago for $80. It holds 256MB of memory and I still use it quite a bit. Over the last two years I've put everything on that drive from pictures to music to backups. It's been indispensable.

For Christmas this year, my fiance got me a new one. It was $54 and holds 2GB. Just like my old 256MB drive, I take this everywhere with me. I've had people borrow it at work to transfer files. It comes in handy when I need to bring new device drivers or new photos to a friends house.

If you don't have one of these things, you should get one. Since I doubt that you live close to the store where I got mine, I can recommend an online place. They have USB Flash Drives for as low as $15.50 for 1GB and $29 for 2GB. Where was this place when I was looking. I have included the link below, just click on the big graphic image and it will take you to the web site where I found the deal.
